Summary

The Supernatural Summit is about to start at the DeVane Hotel in London。 Vampires and werewolves, ghouls and gremlins, and pixies and druids have all come together to find better ways to get along with the human community and address the strict laws which govern their existence。 It's a real opportunity to change the world for the better and I'm proud to be a part of it。

But there are protestors camped outside the hotel and dangerous rumours circling about one of the delegates。 When a dead body is discovered, I know it's only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose。

I have to find the murderer。 And I have to find them quickly。

Dark Whispers is the fifth book in the action-packed urban fantasy Firebrand series。

DC Emma Bellamy is the only detective in the Supe Squad, she's responsible for the first Supernatural Summit which is taking place in a London hotel and it's imperative for her professionally but also for Supes in general that the summit is a success。 It's been difficult enough to persuade the different Supe factions to come under one roof, now she has to worry about human protestor and a scurrilous gutter journalist who will stop at nothing to get some dirt on the Supes。Added to which an omega DC Emma Bellamy is the only detective in the Supe Squad, she's responsible for the first Supernatural Summit which is taking place in a London hotel and it's imperative for her professionally but also for Supes in general that the summit is a success。 It's been difficult enough to persuade the different Supe factions to come under one roof, now she has to worry about human protestor and a scurrilous gutter journalist who will stop at nothing to get some dirt on the Supes。Added to which an omega wolf has just returned to London after a decade's banishment and is nearly beaten to death outside Lord Horvath's house, and a random human has decided to run around naked in Central London claiming he's a vampire。 Funnily enough, both claim to know something about a mysterious man called The Chief。Then if things weren't tense enough The Chief is found murdered in the hotel, it could only be one of the Supes - but if word gets out that a human was murdered by Supes, there will never be any peace between humans and Supes。Yet another engaging, funny and intriguing mystery in this series。 Less reliance on Emma's phoenix abilities this time and the identity of the murderer was a surprise - so that's good。 。。。more

I really liked the first 3 books in this series, but I’ve been pretty disappointed with the quality of the last two books。 I think it would have been better if this series had been wrapped up as a trilogy。 So sadly probably not going to be continuing with this series。

Emma Bellamy and the rest of Supe Squad are continuing to work to integrate supes and humans, this time with a summit。 This event lures in new supes we haven’t met before, and opens Emma (and her hodge-podge crew) up to growth and a deepening of her police role and the supernatural community。 But disaster, of course, also attends such an enticing summit。 With familiar faces, new horrors, and a lot of pressure on Emma, I found the excitement of a tough cast that also needs to be solved quietly an Emma Bellamy and the rest of Supe Squad are continuing to work to integrate supes and humans, this time with a summit。 This event lures in new supes we haven’t met before, and opens Emma (and her hodge-podge crew) up to growth and a deepening of her police role and the supernatural community。 But disaster, of course, also attends such an enticing summit。 With familiar faces, new horrors, and a lot of pressure on Emma, I found the excitement of a tough cast that also needs to be solved quietly and quickly before it counters the purpose of the summit to be page-turning。I enjoyed the unexpected emotions, the ups and downs, the twists I didn’t see coming, the quick plot pace, and the character interactions (the only one I struggle with is Lord Horvath, whose relationship with Emma feels a tad forced—often forgotten/pushed aside)。 I very much recommend this whodunnit with lots of supernatural fun wrapped in London hotel film noir vibes。 One of my favorite books in this series! 。。。more

GoodThis book definitely start out a little bit slow。 I like the fact that they were having a supernatural summit to help others supernaturals get along and also show the human community at supernatural‘s weren’t all that bad。 Of course Emma could not catch a break there had to be a murder or two。 Now they’re just trying to keep the murders under wraps before this human society hears about it and figure out who the murderer was, was it a human or a supernatural。

Supernatural summitOn the surface, this is a mystery with humans, vampires, werewolves and pixies with a the resident Phoenix being the supernatural detective trying to solve a homicide while not derailing the summit she helped organise。 I enjoy how the book uses supernaturals but to be honest, a reader could change the story to be one about a summit on race, a summit about sexuality, a summit about politics or anything else that causes conflict and possible cover-up。 Thanks for a good story tha Supernatural summitOn the surface, this is a mystery with humans, vampires, werewolves and pixies with a the resident Phoenix being the supernatural detective trying to solve a homicide while not derailing the summit she helped organise。 I enjoy how the book uses supernaturals but to be honest, a reader could change the story to be one about a summit on race, a summit about sexuality, a summit about politics or anything else that causes conflict and possible cover-up。 Thanks for a good story that works as both an urban fantasy mystery and a sounding board against prejudices while avoiding being a judgemental lecture。 。。。more

Another excellent book in this seriesAt this point, this series has settled into a nice murder mystery vibe。 The supernatural element makes it a little different, but at its heart it's your basic English murders in London shtick。 A nice way to while away a winter's evening。 The characters are fleshing out nicely, and the world building is solid。 Another excellent book in this seriesAt this point, this series has settled into a nice murder mystery vibe。 The supernatural element makes it a little different, but at its heart it's your basic English murders in London shtick。 A nice way to while away a winter's evening。 The characters are fleshing out nicely, and the world building is solid。 。。。more

I love Helen Harper's books。 She writes magical stories that are easy to get los tin。 The Firebradn series is no different。 It detailed and exciting, adventurous and it grabs me and holds my attention the entire time I'm reading。 I love the characters and the settings。 I love how the author creates something magical and unique with every new book。 Well done to the author on a phenomenal story。 I look forward to reading more。 I love Helen Harper's books。 She writes magical stories that are easy to get los tin。 The Firebradn series is no different。 It detailed and exciting, adventurous and it grabs me and holds my attention the entire time I'm reading。 I love the characters and the settings。 I love how the author creates something magical and unique with every new book。 Well done to the author on a phenomenal story。 I look forward to reading more。 。。。more

I'm a huge fan of Helen Harper's books and this series is one of my favourites! When a dead body is found brutally murdered, the clock starts ticking。 Emma and her team only have a couple of days to find the murderer before other police forces are called in to take over and then the peace between the different races that Emma wants so badly is never going to happen! She works around the clock to follow every lead, to find every suspect, to ask every question until she can find the person responsible! This book was a great read - fast paced, full of twists and turns, some I didn't expect at all。 As much as I love the relationship between Emma and Lukas, I'm glad it wasn't the forefront of the story - the sidelines the romance takes is perfect for what I enjoy to read。 I love how Emma really seems to be coming into her own more and more with each book - she stands up to the supes, even the alphas she won't back down from, as much as they treat her badly at times。 This is definitely one series I would highly recommend! I received a copy of this book from the author but this review is all my own! 。。。more
